Beer and food. At it's best Alkimikis
There is nothing more comforting than comfort food – juicy burgers, bowls of crispy chicken wings, plates of salad with all the additions you dream about, or good old flank steak. Made with a touch of beer, some hops, and all that belongs to beer making. This is the food that we actually need most of the time. Of course, great company and a cool interior always makes these meals more special, and I have no idea about your company, but the interior at Alkimiks is a heart breaker. And let's not forget about the perfectly chilled glass of beer or wine, because it just belongs here.
Hidden in a wooden house on a very busy street, Alkimikis is a must if you like to eat and drink beer. No, no! I’m not talking about some rubbish German beer house, where beer is served by women in national costumes and the main focus is not on the dress or the beer, but the breasts hanging out from the too low décolleté. In this case, I am talking about really good food, even better (well, that is honestly hard to compare) beer, excellent service, and all that is good.
Originally a brewery, it is one of the best small breweries in Latvia, but there is much more than that. The perfectly designed interior is complimented by good, funky music, great service, and excellent food and drinks, including perfectly made cappuccino (one of the main guys there has taught, oh, so, so many in Latvia to make proper latte art, espresso, and so much more).
But let's be honest – perfectly made coffee is not the reason many have discovered Alkimikis and continue to go there. Mostly, you drop in there because of the fantastic beer they make. They are crazy about making beer – an American brewer and a Latvian guy have joined forces to change the world (there always has to be someone). They do wonders with hops and malt, transforming them into the most delicious beer, but when they start adding chili or chocolate, tonka beans or coffee, then even the harshest of beer haters (like me, sometimes) turn into beer lovers. Always start with one of their four daily beers that are available all throughout the year, and then move on to some seasonal or even monthly beers.
For those who do not like beer – no worries, you will not die of thirst. You can have a glass of chilled white wine or a glass of red, or you can go straight to the selection of spirits and enjoy a cocktail (they are amazing). For early birds who do not want to spoil their day with alcohol, go straight to coffee - you will completely enjoy every sip while waiting for your plate of pulled pork or beef burger, croque monsieur with fries, crispy chicken salad, or flank steak served with beetroot mayo and fries. When friends come here, they start with cheese or some other appetizer plate so that later, everyone can enjoy either my mentioned dishes or maybe tortillas, pasta, or soup. Whatever you choose, you will love the food.
