Because in food I trust. In all forms and shapes.

Lyon. Pastries and bread

Here, Ive shared some boulangeries and patisseries that he discovered in the last three years by going there again and again, as well as some new ones suggested by locals, since those would be places I could never find myself.

Amazing pastries. Gouter

Up the hill, this bakery, run by the famous Sebastien Bouillet, is more than you could ever wish for. Their flan is like the king of flans, but that’s not all – kouign aman and chocolate salted butter buns are a must if visiting. The place is small, the window display tempting, and locals just drop by to get their daily dose of some pastry and cakes for the dinner planned that night. The butter here is no issue. The same goes for sugar and flour, but all in the right doses. Address: 16 Place de la Croix-Rousse, Lyon. https://www.chocolatier-bouillet.com

Bread and pastries. Partisan

This place, well hidden in a small street of the 4th arrondisment, is worth all of the hundreds of steps up and then down you take to get there and back. In Partisan, a bakery run by Bastien Malugani, they make the breads, and the selection is just unbelievable, using organic flour and natural leaven. Their kougelhopf is amazing as well as the croissants, and the few cakes they make – start with the custard tarts if you are brûlée fan. Address: 2 Rue du Chariot d'Or, Lyon. www.partisanboulanger.com

Pastry and light lunch. Jeannine & Suzanne

A mixture of American and French, they serve some American inspired drinks and foods, but the pastries - they are, oh so French! A very nice, cozy place if you want to have some couscous or other world inspired food and have great cake at the end. Beautifully served and tasty food that changes every month. Address: 34 Rue Sainte-Hélène, Lyon. www.jeannine-suzanne.com

Le Kitchen Café

Reliable sources say their food is amazing, but the pastries are just exceptional. Breakfast needs no reservations, dinner – always. Address: 34 Rue Chevreul, Lyon. www.lekitchencafe.com

La Boulangerie de St Marc is a place to go for freshly baked (as most of the places), but exceptionally great bread, pastries and cakes. They also serve sandwiches to go. Our must every trip. Address: 13 Rue Sainte-Hélène, Lyon.
